Beach Location Changed

I realized this post is going out just a few short hours before the event happens and I apologize for that. I wanted to let you know of a change for today. Torrey Pines beach at 10:00 today has been changed to Del Mar Beach at 10:00 today. For any of those who wish to participate and haven't been able to attend the times that the group has gone to Del Mar, just park as close to 18th St. as you can get and hoof it in! There should be a pretty good group there today so come out and have fun in the sun with the family!!!

Hey friends! Yup, that's right, we're back! The new 2011 summer calendar is at the bottom of this blog and it is completely up to date! To see the details of an event just click right on it and bada bing there you go! You can even see all three months. It does look just a touch crowded on some days but there were a few requests for more than early morning and a few for more than the season pass holder places so take a look and join us for a great summer! Are you starting to get a little burned out? Looking for something to spice up your week? Look no further! Wednesday is Chuck E. Cheese lunch day, so come on out! Please reply here if you are interested. You could go to the free movie at 9:00 and head over to Chuck E. Cheese afterwards. Your kids would think you're a hero.
Also, Thursday looked like a sad day with nothing to do, but don't fear, we've added an afternoon pool date. Come to Jenny Baker's pool from 2:30-4:30 for a fun splash in the pool.

Hi Girls! I've heard it thru the grapevine that there are actually people checking this blog for activities. (I kind of thought maybe our readership had dwindled to 1!) I apologize for not updating sooner, but I will get back on track now. We cancelled the Padres game outing on Wednesday due to scheduling conflicts/lack of interest/fear of heat exhaustion.(how's that for an explanation?) :) Friday's pool day will be hosted by Emily Bradley at the Heritage Hills pool from 10am-noon. Hope to see lots there! Keep checking, and I'll be on the ball!

Ok, so with a great deal of help from Shauna (THANK YOU!!), I have been able to post the calendar! Yipee! Now that I know how to do it, I just need to transfer all the events to the google calendar and post the updated link. I'll work on that tonight, so check tomorrow for an updated calendar link. So, I thought it would be great to post our calendar on this blog, but I have found it next to impossible to actually figure out how to get a calendar on here. I am having issues with my google account and google's calendar maker and I have tried other ways to post a calendar on here and it's just not working. I guess that I will just rely on the old fashioned photocopy calendar and pass it out on Sunday. I'm not really sure anyone is looking at this blog anyways! So, of you are interested in getting the calendar on this blog and you have the knowledge and computer wits to help me with it, that would be great! Otherwise, my only option is to hand out printed copies on Sunday. Any comments? (hello...is anyone out there???)~~~Laura

I'm not sure if any is reading this yet, but let's get some suggestions for activites for the calendar. So far, these are some ideas:
-Park day
-Pool Day
-Beach Day
-Free Movies
-Summer Kid's Book Club
-Sea World
-Zoo and/or Wild Animal Park
-Legoland
-Free Museums
-The Wave water park
-Bowling
New possibilites:
-Kid's cooking club
-Craft/Scrapbooking day with kids(maybe YW could help)
-Breakfast get together in jammies with your favorite stuffed animal
-Cake decorating contest

Let throw all kinds of ideas out here. The more the better! I'd also love to see some ideas from everyone about celebrating the last day of school. Does your family have any fun traditions? Family Fun magazine has some fun ideas on their website. We had a great time last year with a few of their ideas. Check it out here

Suggestions anyone?

Ok, so as summer is coming around I have been thinking about the summer calendar. First of all I Shauna, can't be responsible for doing it this year. I have too many things going on with too many different schedules to keep track of. With that said, I would still love the option of going to activities. I love the idea of a summer calendar because it really brings people together in a social setting and the kids get to play with each other while the adults can talk. All of this while doing things that you would already be doing like going to the pool, or the beach or the park, etc. Soooooo Laura M. and I were thinking that maybe we could just have a summer blog, and everyone that wants to post can be a "poster", or people could just leave comments. So if you were going to say be at the beach, you could just post it on the blog and people could check it every week or every day (if you wanted to) to see if there are things going on that week. So it would be a little less formal, and the blog could also be a way to talk to others like the yahoo group that we used to do, only it would be voluntary if you wanted to read the posts.

I don't know for sure what the official Relief Society groups will be this summer, I only know that this is not endorsed by the church in any way, so these are all unnoficial del norte activities. So I guess my question is do you want to...

1. Just get everyone that wants to on the posting list and then when people do things that they want others to join they could put it on the blog..

2. Do an unofficial official calendar that we print up and pass out at church (however if you vote for this you automatically become the one responsible)...

3. Have somewhat of a schedule like tuesdays park day, wed beach day etc. (we will also need volunteers for pools)...

4. Do something else that I haven't written, please put your suggestions in the comments.

ok, so I don't know that many people even check this blog and i'm not sure if we're supposed to post stuff like this, but why not, right? we had a great time at Sea World on friday (although it was REALLY busy). I didn't get many good pictures, but I caught one of Shauna "taking one for the team" with some of the bigger kids on the ride that gets you soaking (and in a white t-shirt at that, ha ha)... and half of Leticia and Maren at the Pets Rule show - hope nobody minds me posting some not great pictures :)

As we moved quickly away from the guy with the cigarette and the oxygen tank it provided a great educational opportunity for the kids on flammability (sad?/scary?)..

Book Club/ Story Time

Please join us this Wednesday at the Stake center at 10:30 for a fun filled story time. The theme for this week is Dr. Seuss. The older kids will be talking about the book My Dog May be a Genius. Even if your child hasn't read it, come anyway. We had a lot of fun last week just talking about books, and you can sign up for the book club, and see what other books we will be reading this summer. Del Norte Ward, Children’s Summer Calendar 2008

SUMMER CALENDAR BLOG-This is a new addition to our summer calendar this year. This will be a fun way to add activities, make changes, and find out meeting times and places if not determined already.

POOL RULES- No dropping kids off, you must stay with them. Bring your own treats/lunches. Don’t bring neighbor children unless ok’d by pool owner. You must be in the pool with your child if your child is 5 or younger or if your child cannot swim. Children who cannot swim must wear life jacket, floaties, etc. Please watch your children at all times. Pool owners are not responsible to watch them. Don’t stay beyond the scheduled time. Finally, have fun!

*Jenny Baker’s Pool 14515 Poway Mesa Dr.
*Collage Pool (Mindi Bullick).-11980 Tivoli Park Row- South Pool
*Cambridge Pool We will be meeting at the south pool this year (not the main pool). Gate Code is 3344. Use small aluminum code box, not box on stone pillar.

BEACH DAYS- On Thursdays and some Fridays we will be meeting at Torrey Pines beach. Please check your Thomas Guide or mapquest.com to get directions. Just like with the pool days, you are responsible for watching your own children at the beach!

FREE MOVIE DAYS – Every Tuesday and Wednesday during the summer Edwards Cinemas in Mira Mesa is offering free movies starting at 10:00am.

PARK DAYS – These are in conjunction with free movie days on Tuesdays, so you can either go to a movie or to the park or the park after the movie . Bring a chair, snacks, and sunscreen. Here are the park locations: Highland Ranch Park: (Eastbourne rd.) Hilleary Park: (13500 Community Road, across from Wal-Mart), South Creek Park, in Sabre Springs (Poway Road to south on Springbrook to Wickerbay Cv.), Old Poway Park (Midland Rd.), Carriage Road Park (aka Star Ridge, turn South on Silverset off Twin Peaks, turn left on Palisades which turns into Carriage road, go down a mile or so, park is on left-hand side.)Rancho Bernardo Community Park(18448 West Bernardo Drive)

STORY TIME- Almost Every Wednesday we will be meeting at the Pomerado Church Building at 10:30. We will split into two groups, a younger story time, and an older book club. The older book club will be in conjunction with the Poway summer reading program. You can register at our story time, or at the library to get prizes.

Summer Kickoff Party

Summer is just days away, and the Summer Calendar of activities is almost here. As a preview we wanted to let you know ahead of time about the summer kickoff party Monday June 16th. It will be at Old Poway Park (14134 Midland Road) from 10 am until 12 pm. Please bring your own sandwich and drink and we will have a potluck of sides and desserts. If your last name begins with A-M please bring chips, salad, any kind of side dish. If your last name begins with N-Z a dessert of any kind.
This park has a lot of room to run and play, so please bring, balls, Frisbees, scooters, bikes, water balloons (already filled), water toys, anything fun.
